When my husband and I travel to the "big city" it only reaffirms how much we love living in a small town. We helped his sister move to Dallas this weekend. It was sooo much fun. Right up there with having a sunburn on my eyeballs.
Now don't get me wrong, there can be lots of advantages to living in the city - movies, convenient shopping, um. good food? and um yeah. So anyway I was trying to find Target - who my husband said was just a "mile or so up the road (I-45) and right off the highway you can' t miss it." An hour later after many turnarounds and "please can you tell mes" I called him (again) crying. "GET ME OUT OF THIS FUCKING CITY. I WANT TO GO HOME!"
I did make it to Target (20 minutes later). It truly was 2 miles from the apartment. We left as soon as we could.
Awww. Jenn, you used to navigate big cities like a whore on Cherry street! I'm glad you're a small town gal... I like visiting. I like to maintain a comfortable distance from a city, but I do like city conveniences. Like Stride Rite stores and restaraunts and MRI machines. San Antonio is a little too big... I would be fine close to someplace like Tyler or Kerrville or B/CS. However, if Mason needed an OT with BPI experience in your little city, I'd be screwed. And I really want to live close enough to a hospital with an OB suite that the local vet doesn't end up delivering me on the side of the highway. (Even though he apparently did a fine job... I'll take an epidural, IV access and air conditioning any day over that).
That being said, I do love your cricket sounds, black starry nights, and the idea of a horse and a few goats in my backyard.

What the hell is a Stride Rite?

A baby shoe store. The only place that has extra-wide widths, and the only shoes that will fit Mason's fat little feet.
